Club History

Sycamore Hills Golf Club was founded in July of 1987. The golf course was officially opened on July 2, 1989, when Jack Nicklaus and local Fort Wayne business owner, Tom Kelley, played the inaugural round of golf.

The former estate of a prominent Fort Wayne family served as an excellent foundation for what has become one of the finest golf clubs in the country. Combining a great piece of property consisting of mature trees, gentle hills, and the Aboite River with the outstanding design ability of Jack Nicklaus has provided something that is truly a masterpiece.

Sycamore Hills Golf Club has achieved a reputation for design and quality locally and nationally. We are the only Golf Digest nationally ranked Jack Nicklaus Signature Design Golf Course in the state of Indiana. As one of the premier private golf club facilities in the United States, we are proud to be perennially ranked by Golf Digest as a Top 200 course. Along with our nationally-recognized golf course, our Golf Shop has been part of Golf World Business’ Top 100 Golf Shops ten times. In addition, our driving range and practice facilities are perennially ranked as one of the Top 100 private practice facilities in the United States.

In 2013, the Club was purchased by four prominent Fort Wayne businessmen who continue to operate the Club to this day. Immediately after the group purchased the Club, they undertook a multi-million dollar course and Clubhouse renovation, ensuring the legacy of Sycamore Hills continues for years to come.

“Our vision remains the filter by which we make many day-to-day decisions, and it guides our Leadership Team on an ongoing basis. The Club’s ownership group is committed to continually investing in the Club to provide our members with the best possible experience.”

Rick Rifkin, Club President
